Publisher's Description:

Artoonix - Artoonix is software to create cartoons or animated movies on your PC. It is best suited for those who want to "liven up" static world of simple computer drawings, to try out your creative ideas on the animation canvas and show the results to family and friends. With Artoonix you can: - Create drawings and text effects in advanced Artoonix frame editor or simply add and modify objects from your existing pictures, photos (e.g. JPEG's, bmp, png, animated GIF's) and movies (e.g., avi, mpg, wmv, asf). - Animate and transform the drawings and photos using a host of traditional animation tools including Frame Tweening, Morphing, Warp and Distort . - Record multi-track sound from your microphone or insert soundtracks from wav or MP3 audio files. -Add sound effects to your animations (fade in and out, change levels and speed, mix varios tracks). -Export your animation to high-quality Flash SWF files or animated GIF's for easy web publishing, e-mailing, or to use as your mobile phone wallpaper. - Convert your animations into high-quality movie files (e.g. into an .avi file with your favourite compression codec - DiVX or Xvid) for professional output.

Traditionally, animation process is associated with rather complex multiple stage process but it is intuitively simple in its basics. Artoonix makes it accessible to everybody, especially children. The user interface has been designed to guide the artist through the logical steps of animation process. Text menus, sidebars, mouse contextual menus and keyboard shortcuts reflect the need to concentrate on creative bits while having the right tools at hand.

Version 1.8 is superb software

Put simply, Artoonix is a superb piece of software for traditional 2d animation. Ostensibly designed for younger users, it has all the power that any serious animator could also need. Onion-skinning is built-in so that you can remind yourself of both preceding and following frames. Creating new layers is also easy (they're called 'objects' in the frame editor) and you can easily export sequences or images for importing elsewhere as backgrounds or foregrounds. The sound editing system is probably better than virtually all professional-standard 2d animation software - making it easy to perfectly synchronise sound to animation with an accuracy of a single frame. In Version 1.8 new features have been added which virtually make it a fully functional sound editing suite. The software isn't perfect, of course (what is), and it takes a while to master the drawing tools which, unfortunately, aren't based on vector graphics. There is only a single rotation centre, so 'Pivot'-style animation is very difficult. Tweening works well within its limits, but is only available in the registered version. However, even allowing for these comments -- and after trying almost all the animation software out there below the most advanced (and expensive) levels -- I'd rate Artoonix as the best and most affordable that is currently available. And don't forget, if you don't need to more advanced functions, you can use it free of charge for as long as you like.

Artoonix.

I tried it out a bit and and think it's cool. The only thing I think it needs is layered drawing effect so you can see the previous pages at the same time but show lighter as they go back. This would inable the user to make more accurate adjustments on each frame just like they did doing hand drawings using a light box.
Thanks.

Author's Response:
it's F8 for previous frame outline overlay and F9 for the next one (or use buttons on the menu/toolbar)

Nice progam

I was looking for a simple soltion to make an animated Christmascard with audio and integrated photos, and Artoonix gave me a easy way to do so.
Not the most user-friendy interface, but once you get the hang of it, it works just fine.
A pity it doesn't have an "animated text editor", but it suited my needs!

Thnx
Greetz

Pls, go to www.artoonix.com to download version 1.6 (it has both text editor animator and many other nice goodies :)). Version 1.4 hosted on this site is outdated.

could not finish the download

When I went to download Artoonix from the download link, I was only able to get 5% of the install file, then the connection timed out. When I went back to the site and clicked on the link again, all I got was a blank page.
